concept from
Sally's blog. She states : "in the context of identity, I would argue that my identity doesn’t exist (existentialism). This is because we simply cannot prove it. How do we know that what we are experiencing now isn’t a dream? How do we know our memories and thoughts aren’t implanted by someone else? If our memories are false, then what is our identity? What would be the purpose of having one? Could there, theoretically, be more than one of the exact same identity? What then, would the importance of it be? The point is, the concept of post-modern identity is very subjective. Instead of settling on a single notion of what identity might be to one’s self, but to keep questioning it."
Identity for me is a multiple. Jean Baudrillard said something like this about contemporary society – its a society of simulations, simulacra, implosions and hyperreality, where it is increasingly difficult to distinguish 'image' from reality and simulations become or are society.
For her, the tree represents some of these issues. “nothing is certain, only uncertainty”. Excellent concept. Lets see what comes out of it. Quite dark in a way. searching for identity.
